If you are wondering who else is allowed to come with you to your official visits to colleges and get their expenses paid, the answer is only your parents [or legal guardian (s)]. That is right. The only people that the visiting school providing you with an official visit can pay for related expenses are your parents or legal guardians. “How do I know if a coach or college team wants me?” is the question that many prospective student-athletes have.

So many times prospective student-athletes are not sure whether a coach or institution is interested in him or her. Also, many times, the student-athlete is confused about such contacts made by anyone in the interest of a specific college program that he or she may pass on other more tangible opportunities with other programs.

To avoid all confusions, and the simple question that can arise from a contact made by a college coach or representative, all student-athletes should follow up with that specific college program that originally made the first contact. However, it is not enough to just follow up with the coach to get an understanding whether the school is really interested in you.

Am I a prospective student-athlete? When can I technically be recruited?

All high school student athletes who intend to obtain an athletic scholarship from a collegiate athletic program are always told to start the process as soon as possible. However, you have to keep in mind, even though; it is a good idea to start contacting the coaches and colleges as early as possible, there are some restrictions on when coaches can actually recruit you.

That is why many high school student athletes often think some coaches are not interested in them, because communication is not established at an early stage. All colleges and institutions who are member of the NCAA have to follow certain rules on how early it is allowed to start recruiting prospective student athletes out of high school.
